NHSX and the AI Lab have been set up to deliver the data, digital and technological changes as set out in the NHS 10 Year Plan. The NHS has been on a protracted journey to digital transformation for some time. Prior to the pandemic, Matt Hancock, the Health and Social Care Secretary focused attention on driving technological innovation in the NHS. A policy paper was published, NHSX was created, the Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC) was established to support the ambition to make the NHS one of the most pro-innovation health systems in the world, along with a host of other initiatives. Before Covid-19 struck, the momentum to modernise the NHS through digital transformation was high on the agenda with new initiatives launched to support progress. The organisation is made up of expertise brought together into one team from the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England and NHS Improvement and has a mandate to digitally enable the NHS through programmes of transformation and lead policy, implementation and change. NHSX’s main responsibilities for NHS technology, digital and data include: the setting of national policy; encourage new technological innovations; support digital skills and culture; development and sharing of best practices; drive interoperability; set IT standards; and improve procurement.

Introduction

Embedding digital technologies into the fabric of healthcare delivery has been a protracted and difficult undertaking. However, the pandemic proved that it can be done at scale and pace when dealing with a crisis. The brief now is to maintain that momentum to have a technological enabled NHS to support staff to manage future demands.

Open Forum Events has been at the forefront of hosting events championing healthcare innovation. Past programmes have discussed policies, explained organisational structure and responsibilities and showcased the cutting-edge technologies designed to deliver 21st century healthcare.

To assess the legacy the pandemic has created for digital deployment and the impact technologies are realising for patient care, join us at the Delivering Digital Health Innovation UK conference.

This full accredited CPD event will discuss the role that technology and data is already playing within the NHS and how future digital innovation will enable the changing landscape of the health and social care system. Our speaker programme of leading experts will share knowledge and exchange opinion on how the progressive and sustained use of digital technologies can benefit a transformed and more integrated healthcare system. The agenda will showcase a number of initiatives and examples of best practice from throughout the health and social care system and there will be ample opportunity for interactive discussion and networking amongst fellow professionals and peers.
