This "air gap" prevents water from the drain from backing up into the RO system. 

Bottom Drain Tube: After the wastewater flows over the air gap, it enters this tube, which directs it to the drainpipe under the sink.

While these faucets offer enhanced safety, they can sometimes be noisier due to the gurgling sounds produced during operation.
