Knowledge of Common Woodworking Tools and Knives
"If you want to do a good job, you must first sharpen your tools." Furniture production is inseparable from woodworking machinery and woodworking knives. At present, there are many types of woodworking machines available in the market. Due to all the developments made in the area of woodworking machines, woodworkers all around the world are able to choose from a vast array of tools and machines in order to accomplish their work. This article will take stock of some common woodworking equipment for you, and introduce you to their functions, methods, and precautions.

1. Woodworking Planer
There are many types of planers, according to the process use and structure: flat planer, pressure planer, four-sided planer, polishing machine, etc.

Planer is used to accurately plan the reference surface of the workpiece blank, and it can also process the surface adjacent to the reference surface as an auxiliary reference surface. There are manual feed and mechanical feed, as well as single-axis and double-axis points.

Press planer is used to process the opposite surface that has been planed to the reference plane to be smooth and parallel to the reference plane. The thickness and width of the workpiece can be fixed by pressing and planning, all of which are mechanically fed.

The four-sided planer is used to process four sides of the workpiece at the same time in one feed. It is highly efficient due to the use of mechanical feed and multi-tool axis processing.

The polishing machine is processed by pure planer, which is used for the final finishing of the surface of the parts. The processing principle is similar to manual planning.

2. Woodworking Edge Banding Machine
One of the woodworking machineries, which belongs to the solid wood machinery category. The edge banding machine, as the name suggests, is used for edge banding. The edge banding machine generally uses a straight edge banding machine. Of course, there are also special-shaped edge banding equipment.

The automatic woodworking edge banding machine can complete many processes such as pre-milling, gluing, cutting, front and rear alignment, upper and lower trimming (rough trimming), upper and lower fine trimming, upper and lower scraping, and polishing.

The edge banding machine is suitable for straight edge trimming and trimming of medium density fiberboard, block board, solid wood board, particle board, polymer door panel, plywood, etc. Combined with the functions of pressing, flushing, chamfering, rough trimming, fine trimming, scraping and polishing, the edge sealing is fine, smooth, and has a good feel, and the sealing line is straight and smooth.

3. Woodworking Cold Press
The cold press is used to press furniture panels, wooden doors, various panels and furniture for leveling and shaping.

The working form of woodworking cold press can be roughly divided into: screw type and hydraulic type. Generally, the performance of hydraulic cold press is better in all aspects. Because the working noise of the hydraulic cold press is small and the lifting speed is fast. However, if the hydraulic system is rough, oil leakage will occur, and a good quality hydraulic system can better solve the problem of oil seals.

4. Woodworking Milling Machine
The milling machine is a universal type of equipment, which can complete the processing of various processes, but it is mainly used for the processing of the curve, straight line and forming surface of the part shape. In addition, the milling machine can also be used for various operations such as tenoning and copying. For plane processing such as sawing. It is one of the indispensable equipment in the processing of furniture and wood products.

According to the number of spindles, milling machines include single-axis milling, dual-axis milling, and multi-axis milling. Among them, single-axis vertical milling machines are the most commonly used type of milling machines. They are divided into upper-axis and lower-axis types, and most of them use manual feed.

In simple terms, single vertical milling is only used for milling straight lines, and double vertical milling is used for milling arcs. If your material is concave, then you use the right knife to mill the right half, and the left knife to mill the left half to prevent flying wood. If your material is convex, the right cutter will cut the left half, and the left cutter will cut the right half.

When it comes to milling machines, we must mention milling cutters. Milling cutter is the most diverse and widely used type of tool in wood cutting. It is widely used in furniture manufacturing, wooden floor production and other wood product production. Since milling cutters are used in many wooden parts processing, there are many types of milling cutters. According to the different clamping methods of the milling cutter on the spindle of the machine tool, the milling cutter can be divided into a set milling cutter and a shank milling cutter. The set milling cutter is provided with a set hole, which can be set on the spindle through the tool chuck or directly; one end of the shank milling cutter has a blade, and the other end is a tail shank, and the tail shank has a cylindrical shape, a circular cone shape and a thread shape.

5. Woodworking Engraving Machine
It is mainly used for woodworking, crystal, copper, aluminum, etc. make it more aesthetically pleasing. There are many types and brands of woodworking engraving machines, resulting in uneven prices. The style is customized according to customer needs. It can be applied to wood industry, advertising signs, furniture manufacturing, toy and gift manufacturing, decoration industry, PCB manufacturing, etc.

6. Woodworking CNC Tool Machine
Industrial CNC machine tool refers to a wood processing machine tool controlled by digital signals, referred to as CNC machine tool. If the CNC tool machining functions are more comprehensive (milling, drilling, planning, etc.), it is called a machining center.

CNC machine tool is the product of the perfect combination of modern computer technology and traditional machining. It can realize the real-time, parallel, network, digital and three-dimensional production of design and manufacturing. It can be said that it is the development direction of modern furniture and wood products processing machinery.

According to the different processing technology, there are CNC milling machine, CNC drilling machine, multi-function CNC machine tool (machining center); according to the number of spindles, there are single-axis, 2-axis, 4-axis, 6-axis, etc.; according to the different shape and structure, there are gantry type, cantilever type, C type, etc.

7. Jigsaw
Jigsaws are reciprocating motions. There are two types of hand-held jigsaws: vertical and horizontal. It is mainly used for sawing and the arc part of the curve of the workpiece.

The bottom plate of the vertical jigsaw can be adjusted arbitrarily between 90° and 45° with the saw blade. When sawing straight edges, the bottom plate is perpendicular to the saw blade, and when sawing beveled edges, adjust the bottom plate to the desired angle. When operating, hold the handle with both hands and slowly push the cutting along the line.

The horizontal jig saw has no bottom plate, and the blade is parallel to the motor shaft. When operating, hold the handle with the right hand and hold the body with the left hand to saw along the line.

8. Woodworking Sander
Grinding is one of the widely used processes in the production of furniture and wood products. It uses abrasives to finely process the machined surface of parts or components. Grinding is often used for: workpiece size and thickness grinding; workpiece surface finish grinding; The end decorative surface is brushed, etc. In most cases, grinding is the last step in the machining process for furniture and wood products.

The types of sanding grinding are as follows:
At present, the most commonly used sanding equipment is broadband sanding machine, which can be divided into single-belt, double-belt and multi-belt sander according to the number of abrasive belts; according to the processing position, it can be divided into top grinding, bottom grinding and double-sided grinding sanding machine; according to the grinding direction, it can be divided into longitudinal grinding type and vertical and horizontal grinding type; according to the sanding method, it can be divided into two types: contact type and platen type.

Most of these machines and tools work on almost the same principle. In most of woodworking machines and tools, a blade is included which helps in removing pieces of timber. Sometimes they even include a spinning knife that can efficiently cut the timber into at least two pieces.

Question About Screw Threads
Screws and bolts are common threaded fasteners. They are mechanical parts with internal or external threads. They are generally used as a mechanism for fastening to facilitate the combination of multiple components. Unlike welding, the function of the locking mechanism is easy to adjust, easy to disassemble. If a fastener has external threads and is not used with a nut, it is a screw (such as wood screws, self-tapping screws), and if it is used with a nut, it is a bolt (such as flat head bolts, non-slip bolts). Different threads have different performance applications.
